The theft was brought to the notice of police on May 18, 2016 by Jatinder Singh, senior manager of Radiant Cash Management Service Pvt Ltd, having office in sector 2 of Chhani Himmat. In his written complaint, he alleged that the accused had misappropriated the cash from SBI ATMs, Udhampur. He said the shortage of Rs 2,52,77,900 was detected in 15 ATMs during cash audit on May 17, 2016. Sahil Sharma and Vicky Kumar are responsible for all cash operations and handling of ATMs on this route. On receipt of this complaint, a case under sections 409, 403 and 120-B of RPC was registered at police station, Udhampur. The judge, after hearing the two sides, said if such offences were viewed lightly, the public confidence in the institution of justice would be shaken, and mere sending of the accused to judicial custody could not be taken as a ground for bail as a matter of right, especially when investigation was still under process and major part of the misappropriated amount was yet to be recovered. With these observations, the bail application of the accused was rejected. (JNF) |
