Govt to equip existing 95 degree colleges
'Women College for Kishtwar to be taken up on top priority'

srinagar, Jun 8: The government of Jammu and Kashmir today said that they are intended to equip the already existing 95 Degree Colleges in the state created by the previous government.
Reply to C.Q No. 18 of MLC Education Minister Nayeen Akther said that before opening any new colleges in the state, the government wants to strengthen the already existing 95 Degree Colleges with necessary infrastructure facilities including buildings, laboratories, libraries, etc thus facilitate them to become fully functional.
In response to the questioning on opening of Women Degree College in Kishtwar and college at Padder, Education Minister said that though the government at this state has no plan to open new colleges added that as and when government intended to open new colleges, Women College for Kishtwar and Padder College will be taken on top priority.
In response to the issues pertaining to delay in construction of GDC Thatri, GDC Chatroo, GDC Marwah and subsequently acquisition of the land for the purpose, Education Minister assured the MLC that he will personally visit the Marwah to rectify all the problems on spot including shortage of staff, building infrastructure and others. He stated that for GDC Thatri 21 posts of various categories were created for the college including 10 posts of assistant Professors, beside an indent of 62 Kanals of land belongs to Power Development Corporation was identified at Tipri Thatri, but DC Doda had yet forwarded the revenue papers to the government. He said that similarly 73 Kanal 01 Marla Land has been identified and acquired against the total compensation of Rs. 132.26179 lakhs already released by Higher Education Department, beside Rs. 6.24 Crore was released for construction of the buildings and other infrastructure, but due to court case filled by the land owners in December 2012, the construction of the college was stopped.
For GDC Marwah, government has acquired 61 Kanal 15 Marla private land for which Rs. 1 Crore has been released by the government in favour of DC Kishtwar vide Order dated 2-3-2016, beside government has also fixed an amount of Rs. 1 crore under Capex Budget 2016-17 for construction of Marwah college.
National Conference MLC in his supplementary question showed great concern towards delay in construction of these three college buildings since long, particularly that of GDC Chatroo building, the construction of which was taken into 2007-08.
On this education minister assured that all the issues related to these colleges will be looked into added that government is committed for early completion of these colleges so that children's studying in these colleges could get the benefits.
