Pak has motives to tell US forces to target TTP hideouts in Afghanistan | | | Why the Pakistan Army Chief has suggested to Washington to target Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan hideouts in Afghanistan? The answer is simple.Pakistan wants to spare its land from the drone attacks by the US Army to kill militants. Another purpose is, as Gen. Raheel Sharif, believes, is to break the nexus between the intelligence agencies, especially the RAW and the TTP activists. Possibly Raheel Sharif believes that it is the Indian intelligence agencies that were motivating terrorists in Afghanistan to step up violence in Pakistan. Growing terrorist activities in Pakistan has brought Islamabad in confrontation with Washington and Gen. Sharif feels that once the TTP hideouts were under at tack by the US troops Pakistan may not be blamed for promoting terror in the region. It is in this context that Pakistan's army chief General Raheel Sharif has asked the U.S. to target the hideouts of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants outfit and their chief Mullah Fazlullah in Afghanistan. General Raheel made the demand during a high-level meeting with Commander Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan General John Nicholson and US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson here on Friday. In a late night statement, the army said Gen. Raheel demanded the targeting of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan militants and Mullah Fazlullah in their hideouts in Afghanistan. "Raising the demand of targeting TTP and Mullah Fazlullah in their bases in Afghanistan, COAS reiterated Pakistan's resolve not to allow hostile intelligence agencies' efforts, especially RAW and NDS, of fomenting terrorism," it said. It was the first visit of high-level officials from the U.S. since fresh tension with Pakistan after the killing of the Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Mansoor by a CIA drone in Balochistan on May 21. The army said the regional security situation, with particular reference to border management and peace and stability in Afghanistan in the post-21 May U.S. drone strike environment came under discussion. Expressing his serious concern on the U.S. drone strike in Balochistan as a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, Gen. Raheel highlighted as to how it had impacted the mutual trust and respect and was counter-productive in consolidating the gains of Operation Zarb-e-Azb," it said. Gen. Raheel said all efforts for durable peace in the region have to be synergised with shared commitment and responsibility in order to make them successful. Well the first thing for Pakistan is to prevent its soil being used for exporting terror to India, including Jammu and Kashmir. Once it is done India will be keen to reopen the channels of bilateral dialogue though till date India has not suspended or cancelled talks. Yes, there were some major irritation from Pakistan which had compelled India to cancel talks temporarily. Gen. Sharif has asked the US forces to target the TTP hideouts in Afghanistan because Islamabad had tried to med fences with various terrorist outfits including the TTP but the TTP turned down the peace moves from Islamabad and Pakistan mistook it for direct or indirect intervention by the Indian intelligence agencies. It is no longer a secret that India and Afghanistan have maintained cordial ties and India has been committed to rebuilding the infrastructure that had been damaged because of wars and terrorist violence in Afghanistan. This seems to irk Pakistan which now wants the US to target the TTP hideouts in Afghanistan which could bring growing India-US friendship under strain. |
