Omar wants Govt to book nationalists of Jammu | NC, its leadership hates Jammu | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 17: Former Chief Minister and National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah has made it clear that his party and him are anti-Jammu. While addressing a gathering in south Kashmir's Anantnag district Omar while referring to the protest against sacrilegious act at a religious place in Jammu said, "PDP-BJP coalition government let off rioters in Jammu too easily, without pressing any serious charges against them. Had they been Kashmiri separatists or for that matter common Kashmiri people, they would have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) by now." He said, "Leave alone burning a truck, separatists in Kashmir are not even allowed to talk and say things they want to say. Rioters in Jammu vandalized property worth crores of rupees and burnt dozens of vehicles after allegations that a mentally challenged man desecrated a religious place in Jammu city." Omar's statement has triggered outrage in Jammu as people are of the opinion that NC working president is toeing the separatist line and instead of expressing solidarity with the Jammu people he wants Police to book them under PSA. "Omar comparing nationalist Jammu people with separatists is adding insult to our injury. Our sentiments were hurt and we were protesting against it. In Kashmir separatists hoist IS and Pakistan flags and raise pro-Pakistan slogans. He (Omar) seeking to book us under PSA shows how anti-Jammu he is and how much hatred he nurses for Jammuities," said an analyst. An observer said, "It's a proven fact that Kashmiri rulers, especially NC men, have always discriminated Jammu and its people. It's not surprising that Omar wants Police to slap PSA on Jammu people. Had he been the Chief Minister at this point of time he would have definitely booked us under PSA for expressing anger against our religious place being targeted." He said, "Omar should mind his language. He labeled peaceful protesters as rioters. It's really unfortunate." A Kashmir watcher said, "Since the day Omar has lost power he is behaving like a separatist and leaves no chance to target the nationalist people of Jammu. His (Omar's) party faced a humiliating defeat in 2014 parliamentary and assembly polls. Most NC workers and leaders have changed their loyalties and have shifted towards greener pastures due to the Valley's oldest mainstream political party turning into a father-son affair. He (Omar) is unable to digest the fact that his party is at the verge of extinction and people cannot be hoodwinked anymore. Besides Jammu, Kashmir too has rejected NC. His (Omar's) statements and assertions are nothing more than the admission of defeat and despair." |
