Forest guard turns 'broker,' secures release of Gucchi smuggler | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 17: A notorious forest guard who is known for his influence in the Rajouri district has struck a deal with police officers after a smuggler of wild mushroom Gucchi (a costly forest vegetation) was detained with approximately 12 quintal of Gucchi under the jurisdiction of one of the police stations of Rajouri district. According to police sources, on specific information Police arrested the smuggler from Rajouri and seized around 12 quintals of Gucchi worth around Rs 1 crore from him. Later, after the incident role of influential forest guard came to light who intervened and struck a deal with police officers for letting free the Gucchi smuggler. The deal was finalized in lakhs and the smuggler was freed while the police officer also kept some quantity of the wild mushroom in his possession. However, smuggling of wild forest produce Gucchi is banned under the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Act, 1987. Sources claimed that the notorious 'forest guard' is famous for striking deals with police and other officers to shield anti-social elements for the sake of money. |
