MHA warns of more attempts to vitiate peace, broadband services restored | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 17: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued warning of more attempts to polarize the atmosphere in the Jammu region along religious lines to communalise the situation. The ministry has asked the state government to act seriously on its advisory and keep a tab on the developments. "The two back-to-back sacrilegious incidents can't be isolated incidents. These pose serious questions especially about the timing. Even if the accused may not be knowing the exact repercursions, but there is strong possibility that their handlers might have done it with a definite game plan," said a senior official, who is privy to the advisory issued by the home ministry. The home ministry has also sought detailed report from the state government about the incidents which had a potential of the fairing up the situation in the Jammu region. "There is a strong possibility that these attempts were made when the newly stitched alliance is settling down which could be unnerving to many actors. And secondly the Amarnath yatra is starting. A polarized situation could affect the yatra and this could be a major political shock to the BJP government at the Centre and the state. This is a serious issue and can't be taken lightly," said the official. Sensing the gravity of the situation both the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister rushed to the Jammu and directed the administration to remain on toes. Its in aplce to mention here when late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed took the reins of the state in 2015 militants intensified their activities and now when the alliance is being re-stitched, intelligence officials believe that changed tactics are being adopted to communalise the situation. "Actors both within the state and outside the state have been making desperate attempts to dislodge the government and for it they are using all means. This is a new tactics. We will get hold of them very soon and expose them also," said the official. Broadband Internet services restored Less than 12 hours after suspending internet services in Jammu as a precautionary measure, state government restored the broadband services late in the night. Sources said that services were restored after reviewing the situation on ground in Jammu where everything appeared normal as business establishments remained open and traffic plied normally. However, mobile internet services continued to remain suspended in Jammu for third day today. Earlier, describing incidents of sacrilege at two religious places in Jammu city in less than 48 hours as a "well planned conspiracy to flare up situation" ahead of the Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, the government had suspended internet services across Jammu region. Pawan Kotwal, divisional commissioner, Jammu, described the incidents of sacrilege at Roopnagar and Nanak Nagar "a big, big conspiracy" to "flare up communal tension ahead of Amarnath yatra". Pointing out that the accused held at Nanak Nagar was talking to someone on a cell phone while committing the crime, he said, "We are trying to find out as to with whom he was in touch at that time." The accused on Thursday evening, was overheard telling someone on his cell phone, "I have done the task…now deposit money in my account." The accused was later detained under Public Safety Act on the orders of the District Magistrate, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh. |
