Accused offered Rs 500 to trigger communal frenzy, 2 more held | Nanak Nagar Desecration Act | | Sumit Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, June 17: A day after terminated policeman indulged in a sacrilegious act at a religious place in Nanak Nagar here, Police on Friday arrested two more suspects on the charges of instigating the accused to enter the religious place and create a scene there. Sources told Early Times the duo came on Police radar after the cops went through the Call Details Report (CDR) of the accused ex-cop Gurbachan Singh son of Harbans Singh of Nanak Nagar. The arrested duo have been identified as Rajinder Kumar son of Sukhdev Kumar of Nanak Nagar, a property dealer, and a UP based conman namely Suresh Kumar at present Talab Tillo. The police swung into action on the statement of women devotees, who were offering prayers when the accused entered the religious place. The devotees told the Police the accused entered into the premises while talking over the phone. The accused was demanding Rs 500 from other persons on phone the devotees said. "He was in fact screaming at someone asking for money. He did not take off his footwear and entered the religious place and started vandalizing the place. Women started screaming but he abused us. We called the police right away," they said. A Police officer said, "We are investigating all the angles of the case. It seems it's the case of abetment as Rs 500 were being offered to the accused to indulge in sacrilegious act," a police officer said, adding investigation of the case is on. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Government is all set to probe two incidents of sacrilegious acts at Jammu, Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq, said today. Speaking in the Legislative Council, he said the Government would thoroughly probe Roopnagar and Nanak Nagar incidents and take stern action against the accused. The Minister was speaking in the House, while replying to the issue raised by some legislators. Pertinently, a constable, who was dismissed from services a few years ago, made an abortive bid to create a communal tension in Jammu after he desecrated a religious place at Nanak Nagar area here on Thursday evening. However, timely action on the part of police and civil administration prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn. Later, police and civil administration swung into action and booked the accused under Public Safety Act (PSA). "As soon as police received information about the incident, a police team from Gandhi Nagar police station was dispatched to the spot and accordingly the accused was arrested and booked", SP South Sehjaz Salaira said. As the word about the incident spread in Nanak Nagar area on Thursday, people took to the streets and staged a protest demanding stern action against the accused. Various Sikh organizations condemned the act and expressed solidarity with their brethren. |
