Security beefed up around religious places in Udhampur | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, June 17: After the alleged 'desecration act' reported in Udhampur, the authorities have beefed up security around religious places. Sources told Early Times that after facing strong protest and resentment after sacrilegious act at Janipur and Nanak Nagar areas, Police have tightened the security around Devika Aap Shambu Shiv temple in Udhampur. Sources said that to ensure fool proof security at ancient Aap Shambu temple at Davika ghat Police today opened a new police post to keep check on anti-social and anti-national elements . The police post was inaugurated by senior police officer. Police post would work round the clock for the safety and security of thousands of pilgrims visiting here every day. The step was taken after a man from Panchari area tried to vandalize religious place at Devika ghat on Wednesday night but his attempt was promptly foiled by the priest and residents of area. The man who was in inebriated condition was later handed over to police. After the incident the priest Madan Khajuria accompanied by Bar president Surinder Khajuria and residents called on district administration heads and demanded fool proof security for the religious place. Locals have welcomed the administration's step to set up an police post near Devika Ghat. |
