Warden 'beats up' girl students, 16 hurt | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report Srinagar, June 17: At least 16 girl students on Friday were alleged to have been beaten up by the hostel warden of their school after they refused to clean the school premises. The incident was alleged to have taken place in Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Rajbagh. The students were also said to have held a protest inside the school premises, demanding an action against the warden. "We were preparing for exams, the warden came to us and asked us to clean the school premises but when we refused, she asked us to leave the hostel room and join classes. We told her that we are preparing for exams and hence cannot join classes. On hearing this, she lost her temper and beat us with a bamboo stick," Sunita, a student told 'Early Times'. She claimed that around 16 students suffered injuries. Nuzhat, another student, claimed that even the school principal had expressed unhappiness over the incident. "We want authorities to take stern action against the warden," she said. When contacted, principal of GGHSS, Rajbagh, termed the incident as unfortunate and supported the students' demand for actions against the warden. "Actually students refused to clean school premises that fumed the warden. While I have made a formal complaint in this regard, two FIRs stand registered at Rajbagh and Shergari police stations," said the principal. He said that the students were shifted to different city hospitals for treatment. "I have attached the medical report of every injured girl with my compliant to police," he informed. |
