Mehbooba seeks list of non-performing officials | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 17: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has directed authorities to scrutinize the list of non-performing officials for immediate action. According to the official sources, Mehbooba Mufti is not happy with the performance of some officers and receives regular complaints from various departments about officials who either don't work at all or harass the public. "Chief Minister has directed to classify these erring employees and has asked to compile the list for the immediate action," on condition of anonymity, one of the top officials of the CM's secretariat told early times on Friday. He said that the Chief Minister has also considered that there is a general perception among the masses that no action is taken against officials for their non-performance. "The government is taking various steps to change this perception and also change the perception of the officials that poor performance or harassing the public would not impact their job," the officials while quoting CM said. According to the official the CM has said that the government will not tolerate indiscipline among the bureaucrats and such officials will be punished without any mercy. "I am observing that people come to meet senior officials and the ministers in the civil secretariat only when the district administrations fail. This would reflect failure of officials at the district-level. But our government will not excuse such officials who are not only lax but also fail to respond to needs and aspirations of the people," the CM has said. However the official said that the the CM has also directed not to disturbed the officials in their respective posts if they understand the aims and objectives of the government and discharge their duties honestly and effectively. The top official also said that the CM has also directed the secretaries whose departments are extensively involved in public dealing to establish a system for high-level monitoring of grievances immediately. "I can say that there is a clear cut message to the officials, who despite several warnings have not reformed their way of functioning or professional conduct," the official maintained. It is to mention here that the Chief Minister on Wednesday while convened high level meeting with the officials had also said that the current pace of delivery is not acceptable and nothing much is moving around on ground. Sources said that the Chief Minister is putting all effort to make government efficient as the people are having lot of expectations on present dispensation. |
