Mid-night protests over alleged medico-negligence rock MCH Anantnag
Health authorities order probe into allegations

Anantnag, June 17: The death of a woman due to the alleged medical negligence at Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) Anantnag triggered protests at late night when the family members and attendants demanding justice staged protest. Following the district health authorities ordered inquiry into the matter.
According to sources one Shaheena wife of Mohammad Ashraf Ganai was admitted in the hospital on Wednesday and was operated on Thursday at around 12 pm.
"Hours after being shifted to post operative ward," her family members said, adding, "she developed some complications. "
"At around 9 pm in the evening as she started shivering and suffered acute diarrhea and we rushed to the doctors with a request to see the patient, family members said, while alleging, "instead of examining her she (doctor) prescribed some injectables. "The nurses on duty in the ward put her to prescribed medicine after an hour after which she had some relief," family members told Early Times while sharing their ordeal.
They said that at around 11 pm she again developed same complicacies and her condition started deteriorating forcing us to again to approach the doctor on night duty.
"But she again did not bother to examine the patient and said that some other doctor will come to see her.
"At around 12 pm as she deteriorated further it was then when the doctor rushed to the ward and called other doctors, they lamented.
Family members said, "They took her to Operation Theater (OT) and at around 3 pm told us that she is no more." They alleged that she had actually staged the examining just to give us the impression that they tried to save her life while the reality was different.
"Had the doctor on night duty not preferred sleep patient could have been saved. She died due to the negligence of the doctor who should be punished," they said.
The news of death of the woman, hospital sources said, the family members and other attendants started protesting and ransacking the hospital furniture. They continued protests till morning. As the protests continued top officials from district administration and health department officials also rushed to the hospital and tried to pacify the agitating family members by assuring them inquiry into the matter.
A top official of the district administration said that they have constituted a team of officials to probe the matter.
"The inquiry team has been asked to furnish the report within three days. Action will be taken on the basis of inquiry report," official told Early Times.
