Irked locals protest against PHE, PDD officials, demand regular supply of water, power | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, June 17: Provoked over the failure of the concerned departments to provide water and electricity in time especially during the month of Ramadan month, people in different localities have been staging protests against the officials of these departments. On Thursday evening inhabitants of Kheora (W-1) took to streets and blocked Rajouri-Thanamandi-Poonch road for more than two hours alleging both the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Power Development Department (PDD) have utterly failed to provide water and electricity when it was required. "Even the said departments have played with the sentiments of the people during the last 10 days of Ramadan month as despite instructions both departments have failed to provide water and power especially at the time of Sehri, Iftar & during offering of Taraweeh" said Mohd Hussain & Maqbool Ahmed. Locals said despite the matter was taken up with the concerned officials of both the departments well before beginning of Holy month of Ramadan, but the officials concerned didn't bother to mitigate our problems. Chaman Gorkha,SHO Rajouri pacified the protesters assuring them to streamline the system by taking up the matter with concerned senior officials. However protesting people warned of large scale protest if their demands like supply of water and electricity is not conceded to. Similarly, water supply has been snapped in Kalakot town for the last five days due to damage to the water lifting motors allegedly due to low voltage/current supplied between 80-130 volts. Meanwhile Commuters as well as people have been facing problems at bus stop near Sailani bridge in the heart of Rajouri town as the hand pump installed at this spot is out of order for the last many days. While talking to reporters N Khan Executive Engineer -PHE said that besides this hand pump many others at other locations are also out of order and the matter has been taken up with the Ground Water authorities and it is hoped that soon they will get these pumps repaired. |
