jammu, June 17: In a special programme organized to celebrate the coronation of founder of state Maharajha Gulab Singh, a large number of prominent citizens of Jammu and people from various walks of life paid floral homage to the first ruler of the J&K State. According to spokesperson of host organization- Raj Tilak Celebration Committee Akhnoor, the State Foundation Day and 195th Raj Tilak Divas of Maharaja Gulab Singh, the founder of Jammu and Kashmir, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride, on the Northern bank of River Chenab at Jeo Pota, in a largely attended public function. "It was there on 17 June 1822 that Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the emperor of Punjab, himself applied Raj Tilak to Gulab Singh and declared him Raja of Jammu, he said. The function was organized by Raj Tilak Celebration Committee Akhnoor which began with offerings of floral tributes to the portraits of legendary rulers (Phalak) by the chief guest of the function and other dignitaries. The event was attended by a galaxy of civil and political dignitaries. Among other guests were Maj Gen G S Jamwal, ex MLC, President Dogra Sadar Sabha Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, Faculty members of Jammu University, Sh. K B Jandial, Dr. CM Seth, Prof. Hari Om, Director Door Darshan Jammu Ms Anjali Sharma, Ms Sunaina Sharma, KAS, SDM Akhnoor, Gurinderpal Singh, IPS, SDPO Akhnoor and Sh. Nagendra Jamwal, former SDM Akhnoor. Many Ex-servicemen alongwith cross section of local dignitaries, civil society and representatives from Sainik Colony Jammu, Katra, Sedhra, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Darhal, Reasi, Akhnoor, Jourian-Khour, Mera-Mandrian and Manoa etc graced the occasion. Military Band played the national anthem. Later the army band gave a short musical programme based on martial songs. At the onset Th K P Singh, Chairman Raj Tilak Celebration Committee, who started this celebration 14 years ago, welcomed the dignitaries & the guests and thanked them for their valued support by which the function is becoming popular. He also thanked dept of Tourism Jammu for the brochures on the founder ruler and news paper articles/editorials on the founder ruler. Remarkable highlight of the function was presence of Lt Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, who had conquered Mt. Everest in 2012, 2013 and now third time on 19 May 2016. Speaking on occasion he recalled when he was leading an Indian team to Mt Everest in 2015 and a major earthquake struck Nepal and he alongwith his team undertook rescue mission and saved many precious lives from deep crevices and avalanches for which he was given 'National Adventure Award' conferred by the President of India. He has successfully scaled 29 other highest mountains of the world. Wg Cdr Kamal Singh, first Indian to Sky Dive in Antarctic and Arctic in 2000 & 2002 respectively and Rajeev Sharma, first Dogra from J&K to conquer Mt Everest in 1993 pleased the gathering. Th G S Charak highlighted role of Dogra warriors under Maharaja Gulab Singh in making of J&K and lauded pluralistic structure of the state and stated it as our great strength against external dangers but warned the gathering against communal and ethnic conflicts cropping up these days. |
