Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 18: While majority of Kashmiri Pandits from Valley leading an exiled life for last 27 years outside Kashmir were demanding constitution of Kashmiri Hindu Shrine Board for protection and management of Hindu shrines in Valley a group of some self styled social workers of the community on the behest of BJP have announced ht constitution of so called Shrine Board to sabotage the move launched by the majority of displaced Pandits from Valley.
The Kashmiri Pandits for last 20 years have been crying for constitution of the Shrine Board to protect their religious places in Valley out of which many temples and shrines were razed to ground during the turmoil by anti national and anti social elements while the land of many shrines, temples and cremation grounds have been either encroached by musclemen and land mafia or sold by them. Even some management committees of various shrines were also involved in selling the land and other property of Hindu shrines in Valley there by amassing a huge property and wealth for their respective families.
However delaying tactics adopted bys successive governments 0and sabotage made by some BJP and Congress legislators during NC-Congress rule when the Bill was taken for passage in the Assembly its fate has been hanging in balance.
The BJP which is now the coalition partner of PDP and which previously had opposed the Bill by issuing a stern warning to government on the floor of the House has now played another trick by roping in some self styled KP social activists and creating a confusion regarding the formation of shrine Board by them without taking the existing management bodies of temples and shrines into consideration.
The Kashmiri Pandits who have voiced concern over formation of such a Board said that the Board will become an arbitrary organization as it will have no control form government and law enforcing agencies. Moreover who gave mandate to few people to announce the constitution of the Board when entire community is demanding that the Government should, constitute the same through a legislation.
There is a lot of resentment over the style of functioning of such self styled leaders and organizations among the KPs who from time to time have harmed the community interest is the common feeling among the Pandits as well as the members of existing managing committees.
They said the people involved in constituting the Board want to become Mathdaris themselves as the law of the land will not be binding on them in case the said Board is not constituted through a legislation.
The members of existing management committees who are up in arms against such board said that BJP was playing with the cause of Pandits and this way the Party has been totally exposed before the community. In order to save its skin and avert a direct confrontation with Pandits over the failure of coalition government to pass the Bill as it was under constant pressure from various non KP bodies who are managing some religious shrines and temples in Kashmir BJP tried to create a confusion within the community by bringing some self styled social activists on fore to make an announcement regarding formation of the Shrine Board on their own sabotaging the community cause.
The various Trusts of Pandits who are looking after their shrines in Kashmir and have also managed to construct their replicas in Jammu have opposed such a Board saying that no Trust or Board will be acceptable to them which is not constituted through a State Legislation. They have also appealed the community to oppose such a move tooth and nail.
