After south Kashmir, separatists eye Srinagar | Send letters, ask people to stage protests raise slogans in mosques , extend shutdown call | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 18: Separatists are trying their best to keep the pot boiling in Kashmir by sending letters through their agents across Srinagar asking people to come out on the streets and stage protest, sources told Early Times on Monday. They said the unsigned letters are being delivered at the doorsteps of people and various mosques asking people to come out of their homes to take the so-called fight for Azadi to its logical conclusion. "During the past two days mosques in a few areas in Srinagar have started reverberating with Azadi slogans and people are being forced to become the part of protests," said a source. In a few areas people are not paying any heed towards the diktats of separatists. In many uptown areas shops and business establishments have started reopening and people are calling up Police are asking it to take care of the miscreants who resort to stone pelting and are stopping people from coming out of their homes. Reports reveal that separatists have activated their henchmen in Srinagar and are trying their best to foment trouble in city which has remained calm. "Every possible attempt is being made to ensure that violence spills over to Srinagar but separatists are not succeeding in their attempts. On Sunday separatists made a desperate attempt to set Srinagar on fire by provoking the family members of mentally challenged person from Rainawari whose body was recovered from Nallah Sindh near Kangan. Doctors said that he died due to drowning but his family members were forced to blame the security forces for his death." The intention, source said, was to flare up the situation by terming death due to drowning as death due to unrest. Sources said on Sunday evening another attempt was made to vitiate the atmosphere in the old city by spreading rumours about a Rainawari youth being killed in the forces firing. However, the move didn't work. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Srinagar city remaining calm has left the separatists high and dry. They (separatists) extending shutdown by two more days and issuing a protest calendar is a clear indication about their motives and designs. They have succeeded in ruining the tourist season and disturbing the the annual Amarnath pilgrimage. It's after a long time they have appeased their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC). They (separatists) are under pressure to ensure that normalcy is not restored." He said, "In coming days separatists would make every possible effort to disturb peace in the Srinagar city and sending letters across the city is a move towards putting Srinagar city on fire."
