Some elements in Police tried to topple Mehbooba led Govt: Beigh | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 18: Former deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh has alleged that some elements in the Police tried to topple the Mehbooba Mufti led government. He said that there are elements within the Police force who were not happy with Mehbooba becoming the Chief Minister. Beigh, who is also a PDP MP, in an interview to a news channel, said Mehbooba Mufti was not taken into confidence in the operation against the Burhan Wani, whose killing had sparked off massive protests in the Valley resulting in the death of about 40 people. Beigh also said that Mehbooba Mufti had just won Assembly by-elections with a resounding a mandate and within days the operation was planned and Wani was killed. He said there are elements outside the state and within the state who are not happy with the BJP-PDP alliance and want to topple PDP-BJP coalition. Beigh said that he is not part of the government and can't advocate or vouch the action of the Police but also 'cleverly' said the level of violence started dipping only after the PM chaired the meeting on the Kashmir. According to the sources the operation to kill Wani after he was cornered by the security forces and the police was given go ahead by the Home Ministry and also the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. "It seems that Beigh is questioning the security wisdom of the NSA. But more importantly he is trying to play safe on both the account by being in the good books of both the Mehbooba Mufti and also the Central government and there is definitely more that what meets the eye," said the source. It was the second time that police action has been questioned by the PDP. Two-years ago when Masrat Alam was arrested the police actions were questioned though he was released and re-arrested. |
