Future course of action for restoration of peace to be chalked out soon: HM | 18 delegations representing political, non-political and trade bodies meet APD | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 5: The All Party Delegation (APD), which undertook a two-day visit to Kashmir and Jammu to explore ways for ending unrest in the Valley, will chalk out its future course of action soon after returning to Delhi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said here today while winding up the trip. Singh said the delegation would like to visit Ladakh also in the near future as the region too is a part of Jammu and Kashmir and it is important to listen to the voice of the people there. "The All Party Delegation will meet in Delhi after its return and decide the action plan for the future," he told a brief press conference here. Singh said the delegation had very good interactions with individuals and groups during its visit to Kashmir and Jammu and heard their views on different issues. The Home Minister said many members of the delegation had little knowledge about Jammu and Kashmir and the visit helped them to understand the ground situation of the state. "I hope that whenever any discussion on Jammu and Kashmir takes place in Parliament, we will get full cooperation from them," he said. The delegation included 26 MPs from 20 parties. Apart from the Home Minister, the delegation also included Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, his Lok Sabha colleague Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leader Ambika Soni, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan (of LJP), JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechuri and others. After its arrival here from Srinagar this afternoon, the APD met as many as 18 delegations representing different political, non- political and trade organizations at Convention Centre in a span of nearly four hours. Interacting with the Home Minister led APD, the deputation of Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu sought that mosques in the Kashmir Valley should not be used to deliver hate speeches against security forces while a battery of lawyers submitted that people of Jammu should not be taken for granted during their brief meetings. "We have submitted our memorandum to the and our main demands are that demands submitted to previous delegations are still not implemented on ground due to which there is resentment among the people of Jammu region," Rakesh Gupta, president, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu here told reporters after meeting the delegation. He said besides this losses suffered by traders of Jammu due to Kashmir unrest was discussed in detail. "The issue of use of mosques for hate speeches was putforth and we asked them to ensure that religious places (mosques) should not be used to for delivering provocative speeches against our security forces," Gupta said and added that we also asked the central leadership not to issue such statements, which hurt the sentiments of people from Jammu region. The Chamber head asserted that it was also submitted that in case Kashmir unrest continues, the camp office of Secretariat shall be shifted to Jammu so that work should not hamper. Meanwhile, Bar Association of Jammu Abhinav Sharma after meeting the delegation said they have asked them to involve all stakeholders from all the three regions to solve the crisis. "Jammu will no more tolerate appeasement policy towards Kashmir region," Sharma said adding that they have cleared that do not take Jammu for granted. Earlier, refugees refused to meet while Bajrang Dal activists protested Owaisi's participation as a member of Rajnath led delegation. As soon as the arrived at Convention Centre, slogan shouting activists of Bajrang Dal, staged protest outside the main gate of Convention Centre. The protesters said that Owaisi and two others should not have gone to meet separatist leaders. The Bajrangis shouted slogans against those who reached Geelani's residence to meet him on Kashmir turmoil. They termed them "anti-nationals". Meanwhile, refugee leader Rajiv Chunni said that there are seven refugee bodies and total time allotted was 7 minutes. "How it could be possible for us to convey APD about our grievances and the issues we are fighting for," Chunni said. Earlier in the morning, Panun Kashmir announced boycott of APD. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, which was not a part of among those to meet as APD said no to meeting political parties, was also allowed to meet them. |
