Lal Singh puts Forest officials in a fix; Plays 'Man vs Wild' on Zaberwan
9/6/2016 12:01:25 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 5: Forest Minister, Chowdhary Lal Singh continues to throw surprises for the official machinery to "prove that he best suits" the ministry offered to him. In the latest, he hosted a grand breakfast for his Forest officials only to make them all of a sudden climb hostile Zaberwan Hills here.
During his visit to Srinagar, Singh asked all senior officials of his department to come to his Gupkar residence at 7:00 AM. From there he took them to CheshmaChahi, where the entire team was offered "heavy breakfast", following which, a team of 40 odd officials, left for inspection of nearby forest belt at Pari Mahal.
While walking down the hilly track, Singh noticed a track going uphill. "We had barely walked a mile when Minister Sahib, much like Bear Grills of Man Vs Wild fame got inspired to track uphill on the hostile terrain where movement is restricted due to presence of two BSF bunkers uphill. We told him scaling the hill would be tough eighteen kilometer journey. But he said yes I want to climb, come join me," the sources quoted the minister as having said.
As Singh and some others started the uphill journey, around one dozen officials apologized for they were not wearing proper shoes to accompany him.
But Lal Singh, who was wearing imported trekking shoes, with a hat resting on head, and stick in his hand, lead others for the summit.
After two miles uphill, the group reached the first BSF bunker codenamed Juliet One. By now some of the officials had started fainting for having trekked the hostile rocky terrain, while sounds of bears kept scaring them.
Now another dozen officials apologized to the minister that they can't climb any further and sat down. But minister said he has to scale the summit. The minister kept sharing his experiences of having spent time in forests as he went ahead.
He and some others went on uphill to reach Juliet Two, the other bunker, some six kilometers from the base. Here some more officials begged to the minister to exempt them from the trekking uphill.
Surprisingly, the minister otherwise known for his rude behavior agreed again.
Finally by the time Lal Singh reached the Zaberwan hilltop, there were only six officials with him. "Infact the terrain was so tough that even not his entire escort could climb. Only four of his 10 odd PSOs reached the summit, while others sat back," said a source in the police department in know of the matter.
Finally by around 3:00 PM, Singh and his team returned from the adventure to have lunch at City forest.
Elated to have climbed the hill, Lal Singh asked his officials: "So what do you say, given my stamina, do I deserve to be Forest minister or not?" The officials in one voice responded: Yes Sir.
A senior official while confirming the development said: "I am still feeling painful and fatigued." "But the problem is that my wife doubts if I was literally on uphill task," said the official asking not to be named.
Some months back, Singh held daylong meeting of Forest officials to end up boasting himself saying that many in his childhood wrongly thought that he would grow up as nothing. "But that I became minister," he had said.
Despite repeated attempts the Forest Minister could not be contacted for comments.
