Sasan demands amendment in PC- PNDT Act | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 5: The children's Welfare Society (Regd.) celebrated 5th Sept. as a Save Female Foetus Day in connection with Birth Anniverssary of s. Gurdeep Singh Sasan at SOS Home Channi Jammu. Sasan who was chief guest on the occasion addressing the gathering expressed his serious concern about rising heinous crimes against women and minors. He castigated the Govts of different states for their failure to check the crime and bring the culprits to book. He said that the Govt. as well as civil society have to unitedly fight against this cruel menace and have to send a strong message to perpetrators of these heinous crime that society is no longer going to tolerate them. He emphasized that the main cause of crime against women is our mindset against girl child and the root cause is social evils which gives birth to Female Feticide. Sasan urged the Govt. to take immediate steps to bring necessary amendments in present PC-PNDT Act. He alleged that Female Feticde is being carried out at large scale and there is sure need for stringent law to deal with the perpetrators of this unabated heinous crime. Sasan highlighted that under the present PC-PNDT Act., the culprit is booked under abatement offence, the maximum punishment under this act is up To 5 years imprisonment or fine of Rs 50000- Sasan further urged the Govt. to book the perpetrator of heinous crimes like rape , acid throwing, dowry death ,mental torture, burning of woman etc. Under most cruel category act and make necessary amendments in PIC to make these offences non bailable and make sure that the perpetrators gets rigorous life imprisonment. |
