Read Geelani's autobiography: Akther to teachers | | | Early Times Report Anantnag, Sept 21: Education Minister, Naeem Akther on Wednesdayduring an official meeting here, advised a group of teachers and officials to read autobiography of Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani Walur kay Kinary. Syed Ali Shah Geelani-the man behind current bloodshed- and the one who was derailed Education System by locking down schools in Valley seems to be a favorite author of PDP Minister. According to well placed sources, the minister was addressing the meeting attended by Education Department officials and a group of teachers. Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and other senior officials of the department too attended the meeting. The meeting was called by the minister to deliberate upon the issue of re-opening schools which continued to remain locked from last over 70 days now. "Read books, read Geelani's Walur kay Kinary (autobiography)," Minister was heard as saying by a group of journalists who coincidently entered into the meeting hall. They (group of Journalists) were later asked to leave and weren't allowed to cover the proceedings of the meeting. Walur kay Kinary (On the bank of Wular) Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani's autobiography speaks about his life and so-called freedom struggle. A senior official, who attended the meeting, confirmed to Early Times that Minister asked the participants to read Geelani's autobiography. "He actually said it but he was talking in a religious context," the officer pleading anonymity said. Sources said that participants were surprised to hear such an advice from the Minister whose Government blames Syed Ali Geelani for the current uprising which has claimed over 80 innocent lives and dented the state economy besides giving hard days to poor. "I haven't read Syed Ali Geelani's Walur kay Kinary but at the same time I certainly believe reading Geelani's book will not help us in re-opening schools which is a challenging task before us," he added. Chief Education Officer Anantnag, Ghulam Rasool tried to distance himself from the controversy "I don't actually remember it, might be I was outside the meeting hall at that time as we were making arrangements," he said. Education Minister Naeem Akther wasn't available for a comment. |
