Poor response to blood donation day, not a single unit received across Rajouri | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 2: Despite directions from the Chief Medical Officer to organize 'National Voluntary Blood Donation Day' (NVBDD) yesterday, the health authorities received a poor response as all the Block Medical Officers (BMOs) of Rajouri district have failed to collect even a single unit of blood on this day courtesy lack of motivation for voluntaryblood donation. BMO , Darhal said that he had organized a awareness camp on this occasion and educated the people about the benefits of blood donation but nobody came forward voluntary to donate the blood. An official from office of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rajouri on anonymity said that no information was received from any BMO about the units of blood collected on the occasion of NVBDD till late evening. "As we were busy in making the contingency plan for the evacuation, camping and lodging of inhabitants of border villages in case of any emergency on the borders, we couldn't celebrate World Voluntary Blood Donation today" Dr Shamim , BMO Kalakot briefly. Dr Mehmmod, Dr Govind, BMOs Kandi and Sunderbani Blocks respectively didn't respond to the repeated phone calls reasons better known to them. However, reliable sources said that no unit of blood was collected in these blocks also. Ironically administration of District Hospital (DH) Rajouri almost has also forget to organize any such camp on the occasion of NVBDD despite the fact that it's Blood Bank always remain short of blood units while in case of any emergency Soldiers from Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and other units of army come to their rescue. "Inhabitants of Rajouri district rarely come forward to donate their blood despite several awareness camps. They even prefer blood from others in case of any blood emergency for their family members/ relatives," said a senior doctor. Dr Anies, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Rajouri said that recently some units of blood were sent to district hospital by the BMO. Nowshera and still lying in the bloodbank. Deputy Chief Minister was on the tour to border villages in Sunderbani and Nowshera Sub Divisions and along with me all the concerned BMOs were with him to review the contingency plan due to war like situation. "We have deferred the programme for few more days" said Dr Mohd Younis, CMO just in brief. Pertinently 1st October, 1975, under the initiative of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology, NVBDD was started in India and since then 1st October of each year is being observed throughout the country as the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. In the year 1996, National Aids Control Organisation came forward to support the observation with an aim to increase awareness among the peoples of this Country, the importance of voluntary blood donation, to be able to give the safest blood to the needy patients, to have enough blood stock in our blood banks for any eventuality etc. |
