Terrorist's attack 46-RR camp in Baramulla | | | S Tahir-ul Haq

Baramulla, Oct 2: A group of terrorists attacked an Army camp in this north Kashmir town on late Sunday night. Official sources told Early Times around 10:40 pm some gun shots were heard in Baramulla town, after which heavy exchange of fire took place. "The grenades were hurled at Army's 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) camp located at Stadium Colony lying between Janbazpora and Azad Gunj. The heavy exchange of fire and explosions created panic in the area," sources added. They said the Terrorists may have crossed the river Jhelum from Azad Gunj area to reach the Army camp. A top police official told Early Times that there is a possibility of 4-5 Terrorists being engaged in the attack. He said that policemen and SOG personnel have also rushed to the spot to take on the Terrorists, while as additional reinforcement have been called in from nearby army camps to neutralize the Terrorists at the earliest. He said there is no information about whether any causalities have taken place or not. The Early Times learnt that security forces cordoned off entire Azad Gunj area and the firing was going on when this report was filed. It is in place to mention here that this is the first attack on an Army camp after India carried surgical strikes across the Line of Control on Thursday and destroyed seven launching pads, and killed more than 35 Terrorists. |
