Beigh again creates ripples in turbulent waters | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 2: Muzaffar Hussain Baig has created ripples again in already turbulent waters by questioning the intent of the Modi government to abrogate Indus Water Treaty (IWT), which is being viewed as a one of the strong measures being taken by the government to tighten noose around Pakistan. Beigh, who has been flip-flopping for quite some times, had said that that the talks about of scrapping of IWT is just a hot balloon. He has also said that if the treaty is abrogated it will hit both India and Pakistan. The latest statement of the PDP is at variance with the stand of his party and also of the State government which has been consistently saying that the treaty was against the interests of the state and many leaders especially of the valley have been saying that J&K has been at loss with the treaty. Even though the Chief Minister hasn't said a word about the treaty realizing its international dimension especially in the prevailing circumstances, Beigh some believe has jumped the gun which many believe is to put CM Mehbooba and the Modi government in trouble. His party, PDP of which he is an ideologue, has been consistently asking for the self-rule with economic independence. Beigh incidentally told a national newspaper that if the government intends to stop flow of water to Pakistan than it would require constructing many dams and if that is to happen than it risks submerging the Kashmir Valley. |
