2 fire incidents in GWC Gandhi Nagar shown 1 in FIR | Admin smells rat, but fails to name suspects | | Akshay Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 2: It has been one month since two separate incidents of fire took place in the chamber of Principal, Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar and the staff room. Though the college administration says the fires were not accidental, it has failed to complete the internal enquiry besides giving name of suspects to the police. As per the FIR lodged in the Gandhi Nagar police station by the Principal Dr. Kiran Bakshi on September 2, "Fire broke out in the Principal's chamber and staff room on 1/9/2016 at night and seems to be a deliberate attempt, which caused damage to the electrical gadgets, documents, window panes, furniture and the existing ambience of staff room and Principal chamber." Though it was mentioned in the FIR that it "seems to be a deliberate attempt", the college administration has failed to give names of the suspects to the police. Station House Officer of Gandhi Nagar Police Station, Bishnesh Kumar confirmed that college administration has not given any name of suspect in the case so far. Moreover, after lapse of one month, the enquiry committee constituted by college administration has been reluctant to file the report and has reportedly been waiting for the police report and FSL report. Sources said the college enquiry committee report has nothing to do with the FSL or police report. "The wait for FSL and police report by college administration only hints that something fishy is there in the entire matter. The FSL report will find finger prints of some individuals and the college enquiry committee report will be easily altered, so that there will be no mismatch in the enquiry reports", sources said, adding that the mismatch between the reports, would ultimately bounce back on the college administration. The needle of suspicion towards involvement of some insiders gets deeper with the contradictory statements given by the staff members. While giving explanation of fire incident, one staff member present in the Principal's chamber explained to this Correspondent that that the windowpane of the Principal's chamber was broken. Another staff member however contradicted his colleague, saying, "No such thing happened". The staff members said that in the morning of September 2, at around 7:30, the person who opened the Principal room and staff room had reported about fire incidents to the staff. "But the college has two watchmen and they had reportedly failed to notice the two fire incidents, which was also intriguing", sources said. It was also witnessed that there were no window grills either in the windows of Principal chamber or staff room and both were separated by a concrete wall and there was no connection between two separate fire incidents, which were shown as one in the FIR. Further, the staff members assertively said that the word 'deliberate attempt' was mentioned in the FIR, as there was no sign of burning of electric board, switches and service wires of all the burnt appliances and there were no possibilities of the short electric circuit and it simply pointed towards a deliberate attempt. The staff members further claimed that only that portion of wardrobe of Principal's office, where registers and some files were kept, was set ablaze whereas the remaining portion, where trophies were kept was totally safe in the fire. "Efforts are being made to ignore many vital evidences from the incident's place to paint the two incidents of fire as one and short circuit as the reason of fire", sources alleged, adding that it also indicated towards involvement of some individuals in the two fire incidents, but efforts have been made to save the main perpetrators. Sources alleged that the city colleges have been receiving huge funds as well as collecting huge money from the students and all the affairs of administration including funds collection and distribution, have been managed by few professors, who have been stationed in these colleges for the last many years and were never touched by government during transfers. "The money collection from the students for various purposes in these colleges runs in several lakhs apart from admission fee, which is in several Crores of rupees. Moreover, the collection from various stakeholders for allowing the college premises for organizing various events also runs in Lakhs per month but on records it is shown as few thousands of rupees", sources alleged, adding that the involvement of such people, must be investigated. Principal of College, Dr. Kiran Bakshi said that she was unaware as how much time was given to the enquiry committee of college. "I was on leave and joined on last Thursday. We are busy with the preparations for visit of NAAC team in college", she said. When asked whether one month was not enough to complete the enquiry, she said, "I was not in the college, so how the enquiry will be completed". When asked if she was heading the enquiry committee, she replied in negative. Asked who was heading the committee, she feigned ignorance and said that she could only tell after going through the records. |
