Gurez's health sector goes to dogs | | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report Bandipora, Oct 2: Health sector in Gurez sector is in complete disorder, causing problems for the people. Sources said that employees belonging to the Health and Medical Education at Bandipora district headquarters are enjoying plum postings and that is why they are unable to give proper attention to the patients. There is no cooperation among the gazetted and other paramedical staff in hospital; patients and the attendants have to bear the brunt, sources told Early Times. Due to scarcity of machines the people in this far flung area are facing a lot of difficulties. "We have to go all the way to Bandipora, Sopore or even Srinagar to get an ordinary medical test done, which could have been done here also," said sources. They further said that clinical laboratory tests are missing in SDH, where as machines worth lakhs are defunct. "The higher authorities have turned deaf ears to the problems being faced by the masses," sources said. Local residents of Markoot and Dawar said that even cheap medicines have to be purchased from the market. "Few days back we got a patient admitted in the hospital after he complained of pain in his stomach. The hospital staff asked us to get the basic medicines from the market before his treatment," they said. A hospital employee said, "There are decades old machines here. We don't have advanced USG machine, modern X-ray and other required equipments, while as staff strength is not enough to deal with the emergency cases.". He said there were some sanctioned posts of consultant gynecologist and obstetrician which are lying vacant. Same is the case of paramedical staff including lab technicians, staff nurses, and operation theater assistants and so on. |
