Curfew reimposed in 4 Kulgam villages after fresh violence | 6 structures, school, truck torched | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Kulgam, Oct 2: Following fresh violence, authorities Sunday reimposed curfew in at least four villages of Kulgam district. Six structures, including two residential houses, were gutted in fire while around 50 civilians sustained injuries during clashes. The miscreants also torched a school building in Katrasoo, Kulgam, and a truck on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at Khudwani. According to reports, heavy contingents of forces arrived in Kudwani and Redwani villages Sunday morning to take into custody a few trouble creators. Locals, however, resisted the raids and clashed with the forces. During clashes, dozens of people, including women and children, sustained minor injuries. Among the injured, 16 year old Rayees Ahmad Dar was shifted to Srinagar hospital in a critical position. Due to intense teargas shelling, six structures, including residential houses, were gutted in fire. Locals said the houses of Salima, a widow, and Mushtaq Ahmad Shergujri, two cowsheds and two granaries were also gutted in fire. They alleged that the forces also set on fire their paddy heaps and smashed window panes of the residential houses and the parked vehicles. As the tempers ran high, the authorities imposed curfew at Kaimoh, Khudwani, Hawoora and Mishpora. Despite restrictions, people held protests and set on fire a truck. At Katrsoo, some miscreants last night set on fire a portion of Government Higher Secondary School. Timely action of forces and locals saved the flames from engulfing the whole building. Official sources said science laboratory suffered massive damage in the fire. It is pertinent to mention here that miscreants had also torched decades old school building of Hanfiya Islamia School in Anantnag and High School Batengoo. |
