JKCA follows BCCI, violates Lodha Committee recommendations | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 2: With BCCI (Board for Control of Cricket in India) rejecting several recommendations of the Lodha Committee which were aimed at cleaning prevailing muck in India cricket; its offshoot in Jammu and Kashmir, JKCA is in trouble for violating the Lodha Committee directions and carrying on with the routine activities for the upcoming cricket season of 2016-17. Lodha Committee had set aside the elections of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association held here on July 30 electing the J&K Sports Minister Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari as its president and declared it null and void. Sources said the JKCA president and the Chairman Mehboob Iqbal, have different opinions over the elections and directives of the Lodha Committee, leaving the cricket body into dichotomy. ''The Chairman has alleged that despite body being declared as ''null and void'', a working committee meeting was convened on September 18 at Srinagar, which is an utter violation of the directives of the Lodha Committee,'' sources asserted. The Chairman further said that JKCA President continued to hold the post despite Lodha Committee's decision and the Apex Court order and a Working Committee meeting was also convened on September 18 at Srinagar to chalk out strategy for 2016-17 season. ''Various committees to look after the season 2016-17 were framed and members for both Jammu and Kashmir wings were announced but there is no doubt that the Lodha Committee recommendations have been openly violated,'' sources asserted. The meeting was not attended by the JKCA Chairman in protest but in a letter to Mr Ansari questioned the legality of the working committee meeting in view of the Lodha Committee declaring the July 30 JKCA election as null and void. Besides, the Chairman had also written to one of the branches of a private banks in Rajbagh, Srinagar requesting them not to operate any JKCA account till a new body is in place but the account is still being operated, sources maintained. "I have simply asked the JKCA body to wait for the implementation of Lodha Committee recommendations and then carry on with the activity," Mehboob Iqbal, Chairman, JKCA said. He said that funds are being operated, seasonal activity is on amid no following up of Lodha Committee recommendations. "I have just sidelined myself as none of the members paid heed to my words. Let them do whatever they want to as it is not only violation of the Commission directives but also the Supreme Court directions," the Chairman said. "We have not received any directives of Lodha Committee either in 'black or white' or by any other mode," Des Rattan Dubey, Joint Secretary, Jammu wing said. He said cricket season is round the corner and many tournaments of first class cricket are scheduled to be held from next week and the Association is busy with routine activity. Meanwhile sources said, it was really surprising that on whose authorisation and under what capacity one of the members attended the BCCI meeting as a representative of JKCA from Srinagar wing when election has already been declared void. Sources further added, ''now it is up to the Lodha Committee to take a call and respond seriously and positively to the violation by the JKCA.'' Apex court had asked all cricket bodies to implement Lodha Committee recommendations within six months. The court accepted the committee's recommendation of giving each state only one vote in the BCCI's elections and removing the vote from associations without territorial definitions such as Railways and Services. The court also approved of recommendations that sought to define stringent eligibility criteria for the board's office-bearers and set limits to their time in office. Ministers and bureaucrats currently holding office will not to be allowed to hold BCCI positions neither would those officials holding office in their state associations or those above 70 years of age. |
