JU's Dogri Department violates norms | Admits 7 candidates for Ph.D | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 11: In blatant violation of norms, the Department of Dogri of Jammu University allegedly admitted seven scholars in Ph.D programme without following the set rules. Sources told Early Times that the admission to seven candidates was made by a former Head of Department through Department Research Committee (DRC) without issuance of notification. Though, taking strong exception of the lapse, the Dean Research Studies (DRS) reprimanded the department for not adhering to the rules which is obvious from its letter vide No. RA/16/3915-16 dated 07-10-2016 to the department where it pointed that why time and again the rules were not being followed strictly the Department, they informed. As per rules, , a candidate after getting admission in M.Phil is bound to submit his/her synopsis for Ph.D within six months, but this has not been done by the candidates. "Four candidates were admitted in M. Phil programme in Dogri Department on the basis of JRF and one candidate through entrance test conducted by the department. While one of the candidates is sister of former student leader who had allegedly used his influence to get her sister admitted in M.Phil in Dogri Department by getting the seats increased as she was not falling in merit, after submission of her M.Phil dissertation, she proceeded on maternity leave and after joining the department, she applied for grant of admission in Ph.D programme to the then HoD and accordingly her case for approval of topic was discussed by the then DRC in its meeting held in January 2015," they said. They said that another candidate, after qualifying UGC NET cum JRF also applied on plain paper for grant of permission to Ph.D to the then HoD and after discussing her case by the then DRC in its meeting in February 2015 and topic of research approved but astonishingly when she found the topic difficult she applied for the modification of topic in November 2015. According to sources, a meeting of Board of Research Studies (BORS) is going to be held on December 13, 2016 to discuss the issue and department has written a letter in this connection and has demanded one time exemption to all the candidates.
