BANDIPORA, Dec 11: Panic gripped Bonikhan locality of Hajin in Bandipora district of the valley late Saturday night after unidentified assailants, suspected to be militants, shot at trucker. According to sources, two masked men approached trucker Muhammad Iqbal Wani of Bonikhan late Saturday night and shot at him in his legs. Hearing the gun shots, some locals came out of their houses and found that bullets had hit Wani in his thighs. He was evacuated to SKIMS, Soura, where he was operated upon by a team of doctors. He was discharged this morning. He is a driver by profession. Sources did not rule out the involvement of militants in the incident, given their increased activities in Bandipora district. In the recent past, two militants were killed in an encounter in Bonikhan village of Hajin. A case was registered in this connection under section 7/27 of Indian Arms Act and section 307 of RPC at Hajin police station. Though police had started investigation, the accused were yet to be identified. |
