Bereft of any mandate unofficial delegation reaches Kashmir yet again | People see to it as 'wastage' of time | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 11: Despite having no mandate whatsoever members of an unofficial delegation that is on a visit to Kashmir these days are giving an impression that they would be real 'peace-makers' in Kashmir valley. The unofficial delegation led by former External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha is trying its best to break the ice and bring the situation to normal level in Kashmir. This is despite the fact that Sinha and his team members fully know that they don't have the mandate to talk to the people in Kashmir and come out with any solution. Pertinent to mention here that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in New Delhi has already made it clear that the delegation is on visit to Kashmir of its own and they have nothing to do with the delegation as well as its visits to Kashmir. "Given the fact that delegation does not have mandate from Government of India how can it help in tiding over the crisis in Kashmir. The visit of delegation to Kashmir is nothing less than wastage of time. It seems the members want to cool of their heels in the valley and that is why are coming to Kashmir," said sources. The delegation visited the Kashmir valley in October and talked to separatist leaders here. Emerging out of the meetings members of the delegation said that they have come to Kashmir to know the ground situation and also understand the pain as well as sufferings of ordinary Kashmiris. During their visit to Shopian in South Kashmir today the delegation made it clear that they don't have the mandate from Government of India to carry out talks with separatists or other stakeholders in Kashmir. Sinha said that solution to Kashmir issue lies in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's doctrine of Insaniyat, Jamhooriyat and Kashmiriyat. "Ordinary Kashmiris are not enthused with the visit of Sinha and his team. People very well know that any initiative on Kashmir has to come from Government of India and not from any unofficial delegation. People want their problems are solved at the earliest and for that they are looking towards New Delhi," said sources. Sources said that most of the people in Kashmir are not happy with the fact that separatists did not meet parliamentary delegation that visited Kashmir in the first week of September. Parliamentarians like Sitaram Yechury, D Raja and Sharad Yadav had visited the Hyderpora residence of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in order to meet him, but Geelani refused to meet them. "Majority of the people believe that solution to any issue lies in dialogue and there is no point in rigidity. Denial of the separatists to meet the parliamentarians compounded the issue and since then the situation continues to be tricky in the valley. The separatists have to bell the cat and they have to make the initial move to break the deadlock in Kashmir," said sources. Yashwant Sinha led unofficial delegation also comprises of Wajahat Habibullah, Sushoba Bharve, Bharat Bhushan and Kapil Kak. The delegation as part of its second leg tour reached here on Saturday. The team is scheduled to visit South and North Kashmir and also carry out deliberations with separatists. |
