5-month long Kashmir unrest pushed coalition partners away | PDP-BJP treading different paths | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 11: The fissures between PDP and BJP have become wide and open as Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti leaving the cabinet meeting in a huff and taking the BJP ministers head on is an indication of the fact that "All is not well" and both the parties are treading on different paths. "Five month unrest period has created a wedge between both the coalition partners. When Chief Minister was busy in fighting separatists in Kashmir and was trying her best to restore normalcy in the Valley BJP ministers didn't pay much heed towards the developments taking place in Kashmir. Both the coalition partners' drifting apart is making both the parties think on different lines," said a source. He said, "Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was left alone by her cabinet colleagues during the past 5-months of turmoil as none of her ministers stood by her. She fought a lone battle. Her ministers let her down." A Kashmir watcher said, "There is no doubt about the fact that PDP-BJP ministers remained indifferent towards the people during the turmoil period and they made no attempt to reach out to the people. Chief Minister getting angry during a cabinet meeting is just a beginning. We may see many more such incidents in future also." He said, "Chief Minister by rationalizing the cadre of KPS officers wants to encourage the police officers who acted as the face of government during the turbulent times. It was a bold move. Government forming a Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC) to look into the issue would boast the morale of the Police officers and it would make them believe that their contribution is being acknowledged." Sources claimed, "Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is firm on her decision to recognize the services of the Kashmir Police officers and she has made up her mind to go ahead with the proposal moved by the Home department headed by her." Insiders claimed that BJP ministers are creating a notion that they have worked relentlessly for developing the Jammu region but the fact of the matter is that they have worked towards "securing" their interests. "People in Jammu are not that happy with the performance of the BJP ministers and believe that these ministers have ditched them after coming into power," the insider added. "The BJP ministers not paying much heed towards the issues concerning the people and not helping the Chief Minister when she needed them most has not gone well with the PDP. The confrontation between BJP and PDP during the cabinet meeting is just a beginning. In coming days we may witness many such incidents," sources added. |
