Domicile certificates to Pak Hindu refugees | Separatists' opposition senseless | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 21: The Government of Jammu & Kashmir finally adopted and implemented the decision of the Narendra Modi Government under which the Hindu (mostly Dalit) and Sikh refugees from Pakistan have started getting domicile certificates. Ynder this landmark decision, those who are Dalits will also get SC certificate. Besides, these refugees would now get some reservation in the central forces meant for Jammu & Kashmir. Division Commissioner of Jammu province Pawan Kotwal has acknowledged that the process of issuance of domicile certificates has commenced and Naib Tehsildars has been authorized to do the needful. The demand of the refugees from Pakistan was full citizenship rights, but that demand has not been conceded so far. The state BJP president Sat Sharma on Monday said that the Union Government was committed to granting citizenship rights and it was on the job. Refugee leader Labha Ram Gandhi has welcomed the decision and expressed the hope that they would get full citizenship rights one day and then lead a dignified life in the region as Indian nationals. However, the decision has not gone well with Kashmiri separatists and it was not unexpected considering their anti-India and anti-Hindu bias. Huriyat leader with no mass base, Shabir Ahmad Shah, has condemned the decision and described it as a conspiracy against the Muslim-majority character of the state. Condemning the decision to issue the domicile certificates to refugees from Pakistan, Shah on Wednesday said that it was a "well-planned conspiracy against the Muslim majority status of Jammu & Kashmir", and added that the "PDP by playing a major role in this regard has exposed its anti-Kashmir stance". He said the decision of the Union Government and its implementation by the state government was not acceptable to Kashmir and it would be opposed tooth and nail. "This is a well-planned conspiracy of Saffron brigade and PDP. The Mufti-led government is so obsessed with power that it doesn't consider even its own consequences," he was quoted a saying. He further said that the Kashmir was not against these refugees but they should be settled in rest of India and not in Jammu & Kashmir. "We're not against the rehabilitation of WPRs but these migrants need to be settled as per the formula of partition of India. These refugees should be settled in any part of India and not in the Jammu and Kashmir which is a disputed territory awaiting political resolution. The BJP and its state collaborators are hell bent on creating situation in their favour before the referendum takes place in the State," he was quoted as saying. Who is Shah to oppose the issuance of domicile certificates to these hapless and abandoned refugees? They are Indian nationals and they can settle in any part of the country, including Jammu, where they have been leading a wretched life since 1947. Credit goes to both the Central Government and the State Government which worked in unison and took the decision. |
