Now, separatists call for state-wide protests | Keeping the pot boiling in Kashmir | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 21: At a time when government is struggling to restore normalcy in restive Kashmir Valley, more controversies are being cooked up that may drag the unrest further. The separatists are hell bent to keep the pot boiling and have started lobbying on the issues like issuance of domicile certificates to the West Pakistan refugees and the enforcement of SARFEASI Act in J&K. The separatist have resolved to launch "state wide protests" over the issue, terming it a matter of life and death. "Issuing domicile certificates to West Pakistan refugees, court verdict challenging the sovereignty of Jammu Kashmir and allowing outside banks to confiscate and hold properties in the state are the issues of life and death for our existence as Muslims and Kashmiris," the united Hurriyat said in a handout. Playing religious card, the separatists accused the ruling PDP of working on anti-Muslim agenda. "PDP has again started working on its anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim agenda but people of Jammu Kashmir will not hesitate to offer any sacrifice to oppose such actions tooth and nail. The joint resistance leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik appealed for statewide protests and demonstrations on Friday, December 23," the handout said. The separatists said, "PDP has started showing its true colours by initiating the process of creeping slowly and deceitfully towards the Hindutva agenda of its coalition partners." The Hurriyat this time wants entire state to join protests. The Hurriyat has appealed "all the sects of the society including ulema, imams, religious scholars, intellectuals, civil society, youth, traders and transporters to remain vigilant against these killing and crushing tactics of India. The joint leadership appealed them to hold peaceful protests on December 23 to convey a clear message to India, its stooges and the whole world that we as a nation will fight such designs unanimously, wilfully and honestly." A senior PDP leader said the government was trying hard to issue domicile certificates to the WP refugees as it was nothing new but part of the Agenda of Alliance. "Everybody is aware of the Agenda of Alliance and there's nothing new in it, so why to unnecessarily raise hue and cry over the issue? It seems that some forces don't want peace in Kashmir," the PDP leader said. The controversies are being raked up when the government is making efforts to create conducive environment for restoration of normal life in Kashmir, after five months of unrest. |
