Traffic police run 'extortion mafia' in Rajouri, allege drivers | Victim records video as evidence | | Early Times Report rajouri, Dec 21: Amidst increasing anguish against the traffic police for their alleged inability to regulate traffic effectively in the city which has led to couple of deaths in road accidents recently, clinching evidence has exposed how Traffic policemen are indulging in "open loot" in Sunderbani tehsil on Jammu-Rajouri highway, coercing poor drivers to pay them through their nose. Victimized by the tyranny of the traffic police a minibus driver mustered courage to record a video and audio of the traffic cops, who allegedly extort money from the drivers. The video and the audio clips recorded by the victim driver establish beyond doubt how the traffic cops in Rajouri and Nowshehra are running an extortion mafia and are extorting money from the drivers plying their vehicles on the highway. The video clearly shows a traffic cop receiving Rs 200/ from the driver of a mini bus, in the audio, the driver explains at length his tale of woes to the ET correspondent. The driver explained in the audio how the nakka was laid on Sunderbani -Bhambla stretch and cops intimidated the drivers to dish out 'entry fee '. One of the drivers wishing anonymity said, "There are some black sheep, in the traffic department, who are hell bent upon maligning the image of the police force but we cannot say that all of them are corrupt. There are many people who are upright and honest. Black sheep need to be identified and shunted out." |
