Demonetisation, mandatory Adhaar card hit 5.21 lakh pensioners in JK | | | G S Asgotra Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 24: Since March, the coalition government of PDP- BJP had announced Rs 1000 per month pension to all stake holders covered under different social security schemes viz Old Aged Pensioners, Widow Pensioners and Physically Challenged Pensioners schemes- nothing a single beneficiary has got the aforementioned pension so far. The reason is affecting to get enhanced pension as the process linking Aadhaar is withheld by the banks. As the announcement was made by the government of Rs 1000/month pension to the stakeholders, the government had also made mandatory Adhaar card to get pension form their respective banks but most of the stakeholders have failed to produce their adhaar, they have no other option to get pension on old pattern i,e Rs 200 and Rs 400. The government had announced that all the pension holders who have covered under different schemes get enhanced pension of Rs 1000 per month but due to overburden banks after demonetisation has stopped the process of linking Adhaar. Source in department said that there were 5.70 Lakhs beneficiaries of different schemes in the state covered under different schemes, in which nearly two lakhs beneficiaries in Jammu region and remaining in Kashmir and Ladakh region. "It is so unfortunate only 90 thousand beneficiaries of Jammu have produced their adhaar and rest of the running pillar to post to get adhaar number", he added. Source further said that the officials engaged by Social Welfare Department (SWD) at helm of affair have been found least bothered to release above mentioned pension announced by the government during the budget session in March this year. "They are releasing pension on the old pattern of Rs 200, 400 to old aged, widow and physically & mentally challenged pensioners", source added. "The reason which affecting the smooth functioning of linking adhaar to bank account, is the demonetisation of big denominations of Rs 1000 & 500, announced by the Prime Minister, Narender Modi on midnight of November 8. Suddenly, the workload on banks has been increased many folds, due to which, they have refused to entertain the officials of the SWD and the process is lingering on", said source wishing anonymity. Sita Devi of Block Dansal-Jammu told Early Times that as the government had announced enhancement in the pension of Rs 1000/month, she was so happy with the announcement but she visited the adjoining bank for pension, they denied and asked her to produce their adhaar card, otherwise you aren't able to withdraw her pension. "She was totally unaware about recently development and returns empty hands from the bank," adding that her neighbour- Santo Devi (75), having adhaar card but that too, not withdrawal her pension because, the bank haven't sufficient funds for socially deprived persons covered under these scheme", she added. Director Social Welfare, Jammu Veer Ji Hangloo told Early Times that no-doubt, the process was delaying due to various reasons but now department is mulling that the pension of Rs 1000/month would be released in the stakeholders' account from the next month. "All the pending liability since April would be released step by step in coming days", he said. |
