BJP ministers maintain silence to keep Kashmiris happy | Citizenship Rights to West Pakistan Refugees | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 24: Amid nationwide debate about status of refugees from West Pakistan, BJP ministers in the coalition government have maintained a criminal silence. Not even a single minister of the BJP is speaking on this issue despite that fact that party has a number of times retreated its commitment to granting state subject rights to the displaced persons who have been uprooted from Pakistan during partiation. Credible sources in the BJP said that after separatists and other Kashmir based parties have taken up this issue, a senior party minister in the coalition has directed all his colleagues and party leaders not to speak on this issue and argued that there was no need to take confrontation for irrelevant issue. Credible sources further informed that this minister has assured on behalf of BJP to its coalition partner PDP that BJP will not take this issue seriously to avoid confrontation. The said minister has, credible sources said, assured PDP leadership that running government is more important than solving problems of Refugees from West Pakistani. Credible sources said that a BJP spokesman has earlier hailed the decision to grant domicile certificate to these refugees but he was snubbed by a minister and cautioned him against indulge into this controversy. He was rather asked to give statements on other irrelevant issues. Keeping in view the stand taken by separatist groups of Valley, there is fear among BJP leaders that this issue likely to emerge as big controversy so they are moving very carefully. Instead of pursing their own agenda, BJP ministers are more concerned about power so they are following PDP's line on this issue. |
