Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 24: That the BJP workers were angry with the BJP leadership was too well-known. It was also not a secret that the party leaders had taken on the party ministers during the recent meeting taken by the BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav. It was also widely reported that two BJP MLCs had openly questioned the party ministers and told them on the face either should perform or quit. But more than that, they had described the party's government as "anti-national". One of the MLCs had even addressed press conference to register his protest against the party ministers.
But no one had perhaps imagined that the BJP workers would manhandle and tore his clothes and the police had to come to his rescue, but it actually happened, according to very reliable sources and eyewitnesses. Not one but many narrated what happened at Shakti Nagar on Friday and what kind of treatment was accorded to the state BJP president and MLA, Jammu West, Sat sharma.
One eye witness revealed that "many BJP workers pounced upon the party president and accused the party leadership of pursuing the separatist agenda and not doing anything for the welfare of the people and Jammu province". He added, that "BJP workers told on the face of Sat Sharma that we had not voted for the BJP to get such a shabby treatment and see the complete U-turn on the party ideology".
Another eye witness revealed that "BJP workers told Sat Sharma that the BJP was for the compensation to Hizbul Mujajideen terrorist Burhan Wani's family but the BJP went back on its promised domicile certificates to the refugees from West Pakistan. "On the one hand, the BJP-PDP government is following the anti-India separatist agenda by deciding to give compensation to Burhan Wani's family and, on the other hand, the suffering West Pakistan refugees are being ditched again and again. This was not acceptable," the witness revealed, adding that the "BJP leadership and the BJP ministers were betraying and insulting the Jammu mandate by pursuing policies which are detrimental to the country as well as to non-Muslim minorities in the state".
The witness said that "Sat Sharma tried his level best to convince the party workers that the PDP-BJP government was performing well and undertaking developmental measures, but with no result". "None of his responses satisfied the angry BJP workers. They took on Sat Sharma, manhandled him and also tore his clothes. Even the police couldn't protect him. Such was the scene at the venue from where he was to address a public meeting," said the witness.
One senior party leader made a startling revelation. "Sat Sharma was advised by his confidants that he must file an FIR against those who misbehaved with him and undermined his position in public glare, but he refused, saying it would become a big issue and his position would get further undermined," he told on the condition of anonymity.
This shows the extent of anger among the BJP workers. As far as general populace is concerned, they have turned against the BJP. In fact, they have launched a no-holds-barred campaign against the BJP. The BJP leadership needs to review its whole approach. Otherwise, what was done to the party president could be done to any other senior BJP leader and minister.
