JAMMU, Dec 24: Sub-judge special mobile magistrate, Rajouri, Naushad Khan has convicted the driver of a passenger vehicle and imprisoned him for three years for causing a road accident due to rash driving that had led to the death of two persons and injuries to several others in 2012. He convicted Pratnvi Raj, son of Amar Nath of Langer, Nowshera, for commission of offences under sections 279, 337, 338 and 304-A of RPC. While driving minibus (JK11/1339) on September 22, 2012 in a rash, negligent and careless manner, the accused had caused accident near Kallar in which Pankaj and Deepu Sharma were killed and several injured. The judge, while convicting the accused, inter alia observed that the evidence in the case 'leads to irresistible conclusion that the accused was driving the vehicle rashly and negligently which was also objected to by the passengers on board and that with due caution, the accident could have easily been avoided'. Refuting the arguments of defence counsel that prosecution failed to examine most of the prosecution witnesses, the judge observed that the evidence 'has to be weighted and not counted'. Locals have started questioning those officials of the PWD Department Poonch under whose supervision, the blacktopping work was carried out. Locals said that if quality of work is exposed within days of blacktopping, then government must take an action against the concern officials of the PWD Department Poonch because people are feeling cheated. Locals also questioned the role of S.E PWD and X.En PWD over the matter. |
