SMC corporator, brother booked for concealing travel history | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 7: A corporator of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and his brother, who tested positive for COVID-19, have been booked for concealing the travel history of the latter in Kashmir valley. The corporator from Kawadara, Majdi Shulu, was accused of hiding the travel history of his brother after he allegedly returned from New Delhi in a truck. Official sources said that police has registered a case at Police Station Safa Kadal against the corporator and his brother. “An investigation has been initiated into the incident,” they added. They said the accused had allegedly arrived here in a truck. “Following complaint by neighbours, the brother of the corporator was placed in quarantine and later tested positive for the infection. A test result of the corporator reveled that he too was infected from COVID-19,” they added. After the news of the corporator’s brother testing positive, Srinagar Major Junaid Azim Mattu went into self isolation and also directed about 50 SMC employees to go into quarantine. Mr Mattu, on Thursday, said that police has registered a case about an unauthorized arrival and alleged concealment of travel history. “The law will take its toll. This has nothing to do with SMC or my office,” he added. It was alleged that the Mayor had facilitated his return from Delhi to Srinagar. However, rejecting the allegations, Mr Mattu said he is filing a defamation suit against four individuals for wrongly alleging that he somehow “facilitated” this. |
