Law student among 2 fire at Shiv Temple at Trikuta Nagar, arrested

Jammu, Nov 6: In an incident that could vitiate communal harmony, two Poonch based youth fired at Shiv Temple located on bank of canal in Trikuta Nagar locality and fled from the spot; however, the duo was arrested at Gharota on Jammu-Akhnoor road when they were on way to Poonch. They have been identified as Syed Shah Bhukhari ( a student in KC Law College) son of Dr Mumtaz Shah and Yasir Hussain Shah son of Shabir Ahmed Shah, both residents of village Sanai, Surankote.
The incident set the stage for religious preachers and activists of Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena to gherao the police station Gandhi Nagar where SSP Jammu Uttam Chand was briefing the media persons about the incident. Later, they engaged with the senior police officers for failure on part of police to curb such type of incidents, though, police's role in this particular case to apprehend the accused within hours of its occurrence was also appreciated. They were pacified by the SSP Jammu Uttam Chand who ordered inquiry in the incident by SP South Rahul Malik.
As per eyewitnesses, two youth in an Alto Car fired gun shot at the Shiv Temple, damaging the glass structure of Shiv Temple and an idol of Lord Shiva as bullet hit the idol. Though, no casualty took place, but panic gripped the area after the incident.
The incident took place when the youth sitting in the car engaged in verbal brawl with other commuters over jamming following which they opened fire and the bullet later hit the temple, eyewitnesses said.
Meanwhile, SSP Jammu Uttam Chand briefing the media persons said, that Trikuta Nagar police received the information that two youths in Alto Car bearing registration No HJ12-6209 fired at the glass structure of Shiv Temple. Immediately after receiving the information Police Party rushed to the spot and the information was passed on to all the police stations and nakas of the district Jammu. The Alto car was intercepted at naka on Akhnoor road by SDPO Akhnoor Naresh Singh and SHO Gharota and arrested both the alleged accused. From their possession, police recovered, 12 bore gun along with six cartridges. In this connection, police registered case FIR no 200/14 u/s 307,295,285 A, 427 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act. He further said that the main accused Sayed Shah Bukhari is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment. The gun belonged to his father having valid license. Further investigation in the case was in progress.
