Former Congress Mayor to Join BJP in mega show | Cadre rues erosion of sanctity of Party HQ | | Abodh Sharma
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 6: With first phase of polling merely two weeks ago, the phenomena of leaders jumping fences and changing loyalties is shaming chameleons. While National Conference has lost several of its prominent faces to PDP which is on a political crest by most estimates, BJP has been able to attract many a prominent faces from Congress and some of them have been rewarded with mandate as well. Sources divulge that prominent face of Congress in Jammu and former Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation Choudhary Manmohan Singh who also heads Jat Mahasabha is likely to embrace saffron along with several others at a mega function being organized at a banquet hall on Friday. Manmohan Singh, whose political constituency has been Jammu cantonment, is likely to challenge the candidature of Kavinder Gupta and Aditi Sharma who were tipped to be given mandate from Cantonment seat as both lack residential qualification for the said Assembly constituency. Meanwhile, resentment is brewing amongst the devoted cadre of the party which owes its allegiance to the organization primarily due to its ideology as they see holding mega joining functions in hotels and banquet halls as a violation of the sanctity and inviolability of the party headquarter, which has for ages been projected as a temple by party's ideologues. "BJP HQ, Pt. Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan is not an ordinary building for us, it is a temple that denotes selfless service and sacrifices made by leaders like Prem Nath Dogra who stood and fought against anti Jammu polity of the state" said a senior party functionary. "This trend of joining of new faces in hotels and banquets generates lot of heart burn amongst the dedicated cadre. These new entrants are joining the party eyeing mandate and after contesting, they would hardly ever come to the party HQ, which means so much to us" he added. |
