Polls surveillance: Rs 18.80 lakh recovered, cash found not linked with 'polling'

Rajouri, Nov 7: The political activities are increasing day by day with the announcement of candidates as agencies including police keeping vigil on pumping in of money and other materials in view of forthcoming polls today recovered Rs 18.80 lakh amount from different locations in Rajouri district however the cash was later termed as 'non-election funding'.
Pertinent to mention that various committees too have constituted by the District Election Officer to monitor the violation of Model Code of conduct (MCC) and strict surveillance is made by these agencies which is evident from act of the flying squad members headed by Mohd Iqbal, Naib Tehsildr and Kalakote Police who while routine checking of vehicles recovered Rs18.85 lakh from the possession of three persons.
"The trio identified as a J&K bank cashier, a trader from Jammu and a Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) was later taken to the concerned police station, police sources said.
Meanwhile The matter was also brought in the notice of District Election Officer (DEO) by the concerned authorities and Returning Officer Kalakot constituency was directed to take action.
During investigation Basharat Hussain, RO Kalakot, constituency found that Kewal Sharma, cashier J&K Bank at Moghla was bringing Rs 10 lakh from Sunderbani main branch while Chamail Singh, ZEO presently posted at Dandeshar in Nowshera tehsil had withdrawn Rs 5 lakh from a bank at Rajouri for the construction work of a house."
While one Rattan Lal a trader from Jammu had come to Kalakote , Rajouri to collect the payments from the businessmen and was on way back to Jammu along with Rs3.85 lakhs, sources said. When contacted RO kalakot said all the three produced the proper documents and after verification of the document all the three were not found involved in any election related activity and were let off after few hours.
According to ECI guidelines and directions, the laxity on the part of the members of various teams will be viewed seriously and action as warranted under rules will be initiated against defaulters, nobody is taking any risk and performing their duties round the clock.
