Jammu, Mar 7: Aarakshan Bachao Manch (ABM) has expressed grave concern over denial of reservation to SCs, STs and women in Sarpanch constituencies in J&K Panchayati Raj Act rules under SRO 181 and termed it a violation of fundamental rights of the reserved categories.
ABM's Convener Surinder Bhagat termed the amendment in SRO 181 against the spirit of Article 14.16 and 19 of the J&K Constitution and constitution of India. He said through the notification of State Rural Development Department issued on June 18, 2004 directives were issued to Director Rural Development Department to determine the number of Panch seates reserved for SCs, STs and women in halqa Panchayat, in accordance with Sub Section 3 of Section 4 of the Act. |
