MENDHAR, Mar 7 : While amid allegations of mass copying in the 12th class exams in different Poonch schools, a total of 34 cases of unfair means were registered against students taking English paper today, the paper started at one of the examination centres there at about 11.15 am and not at the scheduled time of 10 am. Official sources said despite the presence of two cops outside examination centre at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Chhatral, some people allegedly entered there and began helping students in copying. When the staff resisted, they resorted to stone pelting, the sources added. On the intervention of Mendhar SDM Romesh Kumar, the SHO of the concerned police station later rushed to the spot. After sometime, a team of BOSE sub-office, Mendhar, led by its incharge Dev Dutt Sharma also reached there. During the checking of Centre Nos 4501, 4502 and 4503, the team registered 22 cases of unfair means against those who were found copying, sources said. The SDM also carried out surprise checking of Centre No 4504 and 4505 at Mankote GHSS and registered 12 cases of unfair means. He later wrote to Poonch chief education officer (CEO) Lal Hussain to take legal action against the staff of these examination centres. Meanwhile, there was improper distribution of question papers at Centre No 4508 of GHSS, Bhata Durian. "The centre has 146 students but the question papers were distributed among only 100 students at about 9.45 am. 46 students, who were sitting in a separate room, were given xerox copies of the paper at about 11.45 am, causing resentment among them and their parents," sources said. The school principal said the question papers were given late to the 46 students because their number was less and it took them some time in getting them xeroxed from the market. "The paper was xeroxed on the CEO's direction," he informed. Meanwhile, when the paper was being xeroxed, some locals were able to get a copy or two of it, sources said. Sarfraz Ahmad, superintendent of the examination centre, also claimed that they did not have adequate number of question papers. Sources, however, alleged that Sarfraz's claim was not based on fact. He had actually forgotten one bundle of question papers at home, the sources claimed. The BOSE Mendhar incharge also belied his claim when he said that they had actually sent 170 question papers to the examination centre. "I fail to understand what was the need of xeroxing when BOSE had already sent them 170 question papers," he asserted. The SDM was said to have issued directions to immediately change the examination centre staff. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident, according to sources. |
