Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 7: Self-styled chairman of JKLF and murderer Yasin Malik on Friday charged the Congress with diluting the state's special status and bringing it at par with other states of the Union. Not just this, he also accused the PDP of working in tandem with the BJP and the RSS to change the demography of the state by taking steps calculated to grant citizenship rights to the refugees from West Pakistan. The JKLF will oppose tooth and nail all such moves as are aimed at changing the demography of the state and merging it with India, Malik Said, and added that time has come for Kashmiris to defeat the "evil" designs of New Delhi, BJP and RSS. "I outrightly reject any such talks which have a hidden RSS agenda and we will continue to pursue our goal of complete freedom from India by giving new lease to the struggle," said Malik in Srinagar.
Two other Kashmiri separatists Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali shah Geelani also used Friday as an opportunity to air their anti-India views. Describing Kashmir as a "bridge", Mirwaiz said that the "Valley was choked after 1947 to force Kashmiris into economic subjugation" and demanded revival of Kashmir's traditional connectivity. "When rest of the countries and regions across the globe are prospering amid economic boom with the help of road and air-connectivity after exploring new road-links, Kashmir has been plunged back to the stone-age. In 1947, Kashmir had much better road connectivity as we were connected to South and Central Asia through historic Silk route. Soon after the independence of India and Pakistan, Kashmir's ancient road links were closed and the region was left to suffer," he said, and added "I believe this was done deliberately under a well-planned conspiracy to make the region further dependent on New Delhi". He also took the opportunity to tell India and Pakistan that though he welcomes the recent foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan, his separatist and sectarian outfit would want the two countries to involve the Kashmir leadership (read the APHC-M leadership) in the dialogue process.
As for Geelani's outfit, it demanded release of all the militants lodged in various jails in and outside the state. "All prisoners lodged in jails owing to the Kashmir issue are political prisoners and nobody among them is a criminal. There cannot be any categorization of these political prisoners…Release of all Kashmiri detainees, including the militants,…Kashmir is a political issue which can be solved only through a serious and meaningful political process.
Even today, more than 500 Kashmiris are languishing in different jails of the state and outside.
Most of them are detained under false and frivolous cases…In Kashmir, which is a conflict zone, no process had yet been initiated on the pattern of other conflict zones to order to release such prisoners," the Geelani's Hurriyat Conference said.
The refrain of all the three separatist outfit was that Jammu & Kashmir was a disputed territory that needed to be freed from India. No sane person would ever endorse their nasty suggestion.
Jammu & Kashmir, which is like any other state of the union, is not a bridge between India and Pakistan; it is an integral part of India where an overwhelming majority of population is vehemently opposed to what the separatists like Malik, Mirwaiz and Geelani have been doing since decades to create problems for India with the help of certain elements in the establishment and media. How could they impose their seditious agenda on the nationalist constituency in the state? But more than that, the question to be asked is: Will the Indian nation allow Kashmir to go out of India? The answer is emphatic no. The Indian nation has sacrificed many dedicated and committed Indians in Kashmir and invested so much. It just cannot allow these handful of mercenaries to carry the day and disintegrate India. New Delhi must ignore them and accelerate the process of the state's integration into India.
