Mufti led coalition Govt corrects wrong of Omar headed dispensation | State Govt comes to relief of students after ordering for mass promotion upto class 9, 11 | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 7: The decision of the state government to give mass promotion to the students upto ninth standard and class 11th has been welcomed by one and all, but not before thousands of students were made to suffer and feel depressed for no fault of theirs by the previous dispensation. The previous state government's decision of deferring the annual examination of 2014 for schools across the Kashmir valley to March 2015 virtually put the career of thousands of students in doldrums as their precious time got lost. As soon as the devastating flood hit Kashmir valley last year in September there were demands from people that the annual examination of the schools should not be held. People demanded that students upto ninth standard should be given mass promotion along with the students of class 11th. However, the state government at that time led by Omar Abdullah did not pay heed to the demands of the people. The people of helm ordered for the closure of the schools and made the decision of holding the 2014 annual examination in March 2015. The decision drew flak from the people especially the students and their parents. Some of the private schools virtually bye-passed the government directive at that time and they went ahead with the holding of annual examination. Some others promoted the students to the higher plays while showing no respect to the guidelines at that point of time. Now then since the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led government has ordered for the mass promotion of students the students rue the faulty planning of Omar and company in this regard. They say that their precious time has been lost due to the wrong decision of the previous government. "As soon as the vacations were announced last year we were forced to get coaching for the higher class. There was confusion in our mind as we had to concentrate on studies of two classes. Had the mass promotion decision being taken earlier we would have been absolved of the tension that hogged our mind," said Arbeena, a student. The government order issued in this regard at Jammu said that in view of the prolonged disruption of schooling in Kashmir Division and winter zone of Jammu division, government has ordered to waive off final exams of the 2nd term for the students from class 1st to class 9th as also class 11th in all the Government schools and recognized private schools of Kashmir Division and Winter zone of Jammu division. The students of these classes shall be elevated to the next level with immediate effect. "The decision has been taken in view of the large number of educational institutions being closed down due to unprecedented floods and heavy rain fall in September, 2014, particularly in the Kashmir Division and winter zone of Jammu Division. Most of the schools in these areas could not be made functional for a long time. Thereafter, due to damage suffered by the school buildings, and due to unsafe and unhygienic conditions and water logging, the exams in October/November, 2014 had to be postponed by the Government besides extended the winter vacations from time to time," said the government order. The government order said that as such the government has decided that the conduct of examination on re-opening the schools is not practically possible which would cause even further delay in the new session. |
