Jammu, Mar 8 : The tall claims of Jammu and Kashmir government as well as Department of Sericulture were exposed in the Silk Expo -2015 held at Kala Kendra a few days back in which fifteen states exhibited their silk products but the host state had no silk product to sell in the expo. Notwithstanding the fact that the department of sericulture produces more than 100 metric tons of silk every year, the absence of weaving units has been compelling the department to sell silk for peanuts. Sources informed Early Times that during fifteen days of the silk expo, weavers of different states like West Bengal, Karnataka and Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh exhibited fabulous and extraordinary products of silk like sarees, shawls, which were very much liked by the costumers but no weaver of the state displayed any products there. Sources said, "As some of the weavers had paid the entry and registration fee of Rs 50,000 to the organizers for displaying their products, it can be well understood that how much profitable is the business of silk products". "If our government and the department promote the production of silk products, the local unemployed youth will also establish their own weaving units in the state and earn huge profits", the sources added. Trade union leader Budhi Singh said that if the government in real sense wanted to fight against un-employment, it should have to promote agriculture based industries and create awareness among the youth to install weaving units. A farmer, who produced cocoons, said that in the district level mela organized by the department of sericulture always promoted them to produce raw material but never promoted to establish weaving units so that the furnished goods would also be sold by weavers at good profit. |
