SRINAGAR, Mar 7 : Legal Metrology department took action against unscrupulous traders dealing with hardware and paint goods and imposed a fine of around Rs. 30,000 on them.
A spokesman of Legal Metrology department said that prompted by public complaints that most of hardware and paint goods offered for retail sale by the traders in the valley do not carry the mandatory declarations such as price, net quantity, complete address, consumer cell number, the field executives of Legal Metrology department Srinagar under the supervision of senior officers conducted surprise inspection of different markets of city Srinagar and seized a number of products of hardware such as Jet Spay, Electric Marble-Cutter, Taps, Nipples, brackets, glass-shelves and paints such as wall putty, colours ,chalk- mitti etc from the stockists of the firms.
"Legal notice has been served to at least eight Punjab and Delhi based firms to which three firms have confessed the shortcomings on their products and havea assured the department that future supplies of their products shall carry all the mandatory declarations as envisaged in the Legal Metrology laws," said the spokesman.
The spokesman said that firms Angel Impex Delhi, Amarson Enterprise Amritsar and Isher Paints Amritsar applied for composition and a penal sum of Rs 29,000 was collected from the erring firms. The challan cases against the other firms shall be instituted in the court of law if the application for compounding is not received. |
