GBS Rajouri victim of total neglect 3/8/2015 1:07:23 AM Early Times Report Rajouri, Mar 7 : The General Bus Stand at Rajouri, serving as the lifeline within the district and the state, has been victim of total neglect as it lacks basic civic amenities like waiting sheds, toilets, and ticket windows/counters. Big pot holes filled with dirty water add to the woes of the passengers, locals and shopkeepers, Heap of garbage on every corner of the bus stand emitting foul smell forcing the commuters to close their noses. Necessary facilities like drinking water, toilets, passenger sheds , sitting arrangements are nowhere at this bus stand from where more than 300 buses/ Tempo Travelers, Tata Sumos etc leaves for several places in the district and for several destinations of the State. The ensuing rainy season has added worries to the bus operators and passengers as the entire bus stand get water logged. After a gap of more than 20 years Municipal Committee had repaired the main drain passing through the middle of the bus stand but besides covering the drain the entire dug portion has been left without proper black topping and the pot holes filed with rain water causing many problems to the commuters. No drinking water facility was provided at bus stand by the concerned authorities. Many years back a hand pump was installed at the center of the bus stand which remains mostly out of order and poor people forced to buy a bottle of drinking water at a cost of Rs 25. "There is no place to sit if you miss a bus and to wait for next bus. Either one has to keep standing in the rain or sun light or sit on dirty corners of the shops" said Sushma Devi, a passenger". Many a times the clothes of the people get spoiled as the buses splash dirty water while crossing water filled ditches situated at every corner of the bus stand. Abdul Majid a shopkeeper at bus stand said that every year Municipal Committee organise auctions to look after the affairs at bus stand but no money is spent for the welfare of passengers and the money is being either misused or used to make salaries of the employees. District administration was of the view that due to nexus between traders and transporters the administration finding it very difficult to carry the repairs of the bus stands as they don't shift their vehicles and business to new bus stand constructed at a distance of about 1500 meters from this bus stand.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
