NREGA, NBA scam in Budgam village Six officials of RDD suspended 5/11/2015 11:24:48 PM ET Impact Early Times Report Budgam, May 11: After a special team constituted to probe into alleged bungling of works under MG NREGA and Nirmal Bharat Abhiyaan (NBA) conducted physical verification of the works in Budgam village, the department of Rural Development Department has suspended as many as six of its officials found involved in misappropriation of funds and corruption. The administration finally woke up after a special team was constituted by the Deputy Commissioner Budgam on the directions of Rural Development Minister. The team conducted the surprise raids to look into alleged scam under MG NREGA in Dreygam village of Budgam. The raids were conducted by a team of officials in the village that visited the spots where the works were shown having been executed. The team has seized all the records of the works. Pertinent to mention that Early Times had exclusively exposed the scam involving embezzlement of more than 30 lakhs of rupees under MG NREGA and Nirmal Bharat Abhiyaan (NBA) earlier called Total Sanination Campaign (TSC). Information about the fake works was obtained under J&K Right to Information Act by some local residents of Dreygam village in Khansahib block of Budgam and this has now exposed a multi lakh scam related to release of payments from state exchequer in favour of non existing works in Dreygam village of Khansahib block in central Kashmir's Budgam district. Documents available with Early Times reveal that an amount of around Rs 6o lakhs plus was released during financial year 2013 -14 for executing various works under the centrally sponsored scheme MGNREGA in panchayat halqa of Dreygam Khansib block. The villagers allege that out of Rs 60 lakhs an amount of Rs 35 lakhs plus were already released but against works which hardly exist on the ground. Details reveal that VLW, Junior Engineer, Supervisor and three other employees of Rural Development Department have been put under suspension by the Government after they were found to be involved in the bungling.
